Ms. Raulston's family is rooted here in PWC and have been here since the 1980s’. She has always viewed PWCS as a progressive and productive school system. Northern Virginia as well as Maryland have some of the most notable school systems in the US. She now has three grand children who were and continue to be students in the PWC Neabsco School District. She also has close ties with community families who have children, attending as well. As previously mentioned, Ms. Raulston has served on various PWC county committees and commissions as it relates to education in the Neabsco Magisterial District and the county as a whole. They have included her current role as the Neabsco Magisterial District School Board Member, the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington located in Dale City, Dale City Civic Association scholarship committee and more. While on those committees and commissions, she has held various offices, chaired many school related events, raised funding, and more. Much of her involvement in Prince William County has set the foundation for Ms. Raulston in her desire in serving as a member of a school board. She loves education and learning in general. Ms. Raulston enjoys watching children learn because knowledge is power and being empowered through education can offer wider opportunities, more accessibility to choices, and of course freedom.
Why I am Running for Re-Election?
I wish to continue to serve on the school board because of the success of the work that I have done and a continuation of the work that is left to do in my tenure. A snap shop of the work that has been completed successfully includes the reduction of trailers at the school. At the beginning of my term, the Neabsco District schools had a total of 36 trailers. We currently have 12 left to remove. At the beginning of my term, the on-time high school graduation rate throughout the entire school district was 91.41%. The on-time graduation rate is now at 92.4%. The bus drivers as well as teachers received raises for 4 years in a row. I was apart of the Board that gave the largest teacher raise in Prince William County schools in the last 15 years. I also helped with the expansion of CTE programs allotting an additional $1M for CTE High School cirriculum and support. These are just a few of the accomplishments that have been achieved during my tenure however, there is more work to be done. It is my wish to continue into a second term to continue to make the changes needed for the educational success for the children of the Neabsco District. My vision for PWCS is to be ranked among the top 10 public school systems in the United States. We are already a world class public educational system, but I believe that we have the potential of becoming a system that is positioned among the best in the country. According to the national rating schools systems in the United States, we currently stand at number 36. Number 36 is a great rating to have, yet our neighboring county is among the top 10 in the nation. This county is within arms length of outstanding public educational systems. The objectives that I envision for getting there include implementing national and local best practices for more effective classroom instruction, enhanced front line school leadership, effective parent/teacher/principal alliances and engagement, implement best practice methods in school counseling and mental health services, enhanced health, physical fitness and nutritional protocols, (as it pertains to certain chronic health conditions including obesity), ensuring safe practices in schools that protect students from threat and harm, and, to ensure a high standard of accountability for educational inclusiveness for all students as it addresses topics related to culture, ethnicity and diversity, and more.
